Blog Post New Entry

Winter blues

Posted by qhrider on November 7, 2009 at 4:59 AM

It seems that I never get to ride in November the last few years. My horses always seem to come up with one excuse after another, lameness, etc. This year my one mare, Bobbi is in foal and the other, KD, had a fractured tooth and required surgery to remove it! I had lots of plans to work really hard on my flying lead changes, do some dressage and lots of hacking out.

Now I just get to feed them and clean out stables without any of the fun bits. Hoping 2010 will be my year of no vet fees and sound and happy horses.

If it is any consolation, this is possibly the best time of year for not riding, with short days and rubbish weather. You can start afresh in the new year. I have had a very on/off year with Sassy's problems. She is having a 5 week break at the moment, not her fault this time though, it's me, got to wait for my cataract surgery to heal before I get back in the saddle. So lets hope 2010 is a better year for all of us. Sassy has not been to the last 2 Hartpury shows so I am really hoping to get her there next year.

Have seen the photo of KD on FB. I had not realised they would extract the tooth that way, poor mare. She will soon recover and I am sure she will feel so much better.

Yes you've enlightened us as to tooth extraction methods - I had no idea they'd just take out the side, poor KD. Wishing her a speedy recovery - but the way this year has gone, it will be Spring before you know it and you'll have enjoyed plenty of saddle time with her. Chin up.

I see from Fb that KD is getting turned out now. Has the hole healed up now?

NO, the hole is still there but getting smaller. Did not turn her out today as the ground was a bit hard and she doesn't have her shoes back on yet. Vet said she could go out for a short time and she did not roll and get mud in it, which was a good thing. Her face looks a mess, hope it heals without too much scarring.
