High and Lows and a damn good laugh!

With the show season over for another year for most of us it is time to reflect and take stock.    What have been your high points, low points and funniest moment of the 2011 season?     You never know, if enough people contribute we may have a competition!    Please email Sarah with your contribution.

SARAH HADLEY     High Point - riding out at the summer camp in Wales.   I went pony-trekking in Wales when I was a kid and I would never have believed back then that one day I would riding out on my own horse on a western saddle!

Low Point - Area 3 show in July, Showmanship class when my back gave up in the middle of what had started out to be my best ever Showmanship performance.   I can still remember the pain!

Funniest Moment - Another Area 3 show in September, in the Versatile Horse class when Sassy knocked over the gate stand (my fault), the water container that was anchoring it fell over and the water cascaded out quickly forming a small lake.   It was the glugging sound that set me off, I still giggle now when I think about it!

CHRISTINE GRIEVE - The Show Season of 2011 has been my best year ever. KD and I got our first trophies, sashes, medals and pictures in the western magazines! We also competed in out first Championship classes in both WES and AQHA-UK. Lots to work on for next year, but very pleased with our efforts this year. I made the effort to travel to shows that I don't normally attend to get to compete against different people and try out new venues. Buying a trailer with living accommodation has helped inspire me to get out more. We even managed to attend the Western Week at Nigel Crowe's place in Wales. We set off from our home in a small convoy of two cars, two trailers, three horses and three kids. The weather was perfect and we all had a fab time. Sarah getting KD and I to cross the stream was a challenge, but one we finally managed. The trail lesson with Bob Mayhew at Nigel's helped to give me the confidence to try trail with KD this year, and that turned out to be our class of the year at both the WES and AQHA shows. Scoring a 141 1/2 in the Maturity Trail class at the AQHA-UK Breed Show was a real highlight for KD and I. Not many lows, with the exception of the high petrol costs! Another highlight was being a small part of the winning team for the WES Area Versatility Team Challenge and finally letting Nigel take home the trophy that he has kindly sponsored. Spending time with friends and our wonderful horses at the relaxed shows where everyone cheers for each other. Priceless.  And Finally, heading off to the AQHA World Show with the Area 6 team in November will be a nice way to round off this year. Can't wait until next year now!

Nigel Crowe: More highs than lows this season, Daisy having her first foal after trying for 2 years and a buckskin filly (Daisy's Dunit) who has a great new home with Thea Lloyd.   Our summer camp at Cwm Nant and no rain.  My first year of Reining to which I am really addicted and Homer getting a score of 67.5 at the Area 3 show and then winning the Novice Reining and the AQHA Pleasure at the WES Nationals.  Finding Desperados at David Deptfords.   Looking forward to our trip to the World Show and ranch visits in Texas and Oklahoma.   But most of all seeing all our western friends at the shows, can't wait till next season.  The lows - only one really, my knee operation which has gone wrong and I have to go through it all over again next year (old age).
